On July 10-11, 2024, at the invitation of Mikai, together with several surgeons, we went to training. The organized course aimed to provide participating surgeons with the necessary requirements to understand a method, namely EXTERNAL FIXATION, and the tools of a method, the EXTERNAL FIXATORS. During the course, we have discussed how to organize the operating room, ward, and outpatient clinic dedicated to external fixation.
For 14 years, the activity has been carried out at MIOS: a reference center for septic complications. The hospital where surgical activity takes place (Santa Maria diMisericordia in Albenga) boasts a department dedicated to septic pathology, specifically septic osteoarticular surgery. The departments of Inflammatory Osteoarticular Diseases, Infectious Diseases, and Microbiology converge in a single functional area called MIOS. The new structure constitutes an example of a mixed department dedicated to bone infectious pathology where patients are managed by a multidisciplinary team consisting of an Orthopedic Surgeon, Infectious Disease Specialist, and Plastic Microsurgeon. In this context, Dr. Carlo Salomone operates, dealing with the use, management, and development of external fixation techniques.
