An important treatment with Arthrosurface® HemiCAP.

The Arthrosurface® HemiCAP, an implant for reconstructing the surface of the shoulder joint, was performed at the Dr. Michal Pawlak Day Hospital (Seaside Medical Center in Gdansk). The surgery was performed by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Maciej Pawlak, MD.

The patient reported to Dr. Maciej Pawlak with severe instability of the shoulder joint and Bankart-type and Hill-Sachs-type bone damage on the anterior surface of the humeral head.

Dr. Maciej Pawlak was the first surgeon in Poland to use the HemiCap implant to reconstruct the articular surface of the head of the humerus of the Hill-Sachs type. Fixation of the implant consisted of two stages. First, a titanium screw is screwed into the defect, and then a second part of the 15/20 mm pin-shaped implant is placed over the screw to fill the defect in the head of the humerus.

Dr. Maciej Pawlak performed the entire procedure using an arthroscopic technique, without opening the joint, which required precision and great skill. Shoulder arthroscopy, unlike knee arthroscopy, is a more demanding procedure and requires great skill on the part of the operator.

Maciej Pawlak is an international trainer in arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgery from Smith and Nephew, a licensed doctor of the Polish Football Association (PZPN), as well as Lechia Gdansk, and works with MMTS Kwidzyn handball players. He is a member of the Polish Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology and The European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy ESSKA. He is an assistant in the Provincial Trauma and Orthopedic Department at the Pomeranian Traumatology Center in Gdansk and a doctor at Rehasport Clinic.
